On 30 June, Bilbao hosted the “100 Irrati Urte” gala, a very special celebration through which Radio Popular–Herri Irratia and Bizkaia Irratia sought to commemorate their shared history, recognise the progress they have made, and look to the future of broadcasting, guided by their values of community, service and commitment to Bizkaia.
The Somorrostro Training Centre wanted to be present at such a significant event for the diocesan radio stations. Our director, Javi Laiseca, joined the staff of Radio Popular and Herri Irratia for a day filled with emotion, memories and gratitude.
Furthermore, Somorrostro had the honour of being one of the sponsors of the gala, providing special support for the Ángel Mari Unzueta Saria Award, a recognition linked to the diocesan sphere. The award was presented by the Bishop of Bilbao, Monsignor Joseba Segura, to Mavi Laiseka, representing Cáritas Bizkaia, in recognition of decades of tireless work in defending human dignity and supporting the most vulnerable members of society.
For our centre, there could be no more fitting sponsorship. Recognising the work of Cáritas Bizkaia also means highlighting a way of understanding life, education and social commitment that is very much in keeping with Somorrostro’s identity: standing by people, especially those most in need.
We at the Somorrostro Training Centre would like to congratulate the diocesan radio stations, all their staff, and all the individuals and organisations honoured at this anniversary gala. Thank you for so many years of giving Bizkaia a voice, supporting society and building community through communication.
