Thirteen young people are currently taking part in a new electrical engineering course at the Somorrostro Training Centre, run as part of the Gazte On 2026 programme – an initiative launched by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia that combines training, support and real opportunities to enter the labour market.
On this occasion, the students are undertaking training linked to the Certificate of Professional Competence in ‘Auxiliary assembly and maintenance operations for electrical and electronic equipment’, completing a 390-hour training programme at the centre, which will run until October, in addition to their corresponding work placement.
But the programme goes one step further. The 13 participants will also receive specific training requested by the company, with the aim of tailoring their preparation to the actual requirements of the role and facilitating their subsequent induction. The course does, in fact, include a commitment to recruitment, and the plan is for them to join the company from November onwards.
Gazte On is aimed at young people aged between 18 and 23 who are experiencing or at risk of social exclusion, and forms part of Bizkaia’s Youth Strategy. Its approach is fully in line with the essence of Somorrostro: to train, support and create opportunities without leaving anyone behind.
Because the aim is not merely to acquire technical skills. The programme also provides social and personal support in areas such as health, housing, finance and life skills, alongside coordinated efforts between social organisations, training centres and businesses.
Training that is linked not only to employment, but also to personal independence and building a plan for the future. Further proof that, when training and support go hand in hand, opportunities can become real pathways.
