From June 16th to 23rd, our students from the 1st year of high school were in the Shetland Islands, North of Scotland, participating in the annual Global Classroom conference. On this occasion, our students were accompanied by students from Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden, Scotland, Australia and South Africa. This conference, which had as a common thread the Community, gave us the opportunity to learn how different communities arise and work in each country, and how they all have a common goal: to ensure that citizens live a better and fairer life.
The central theme of the conference was the Community, exploring how they emerge and function in different countries with the common goal of improving the lives of citizens. This exchange of ideas and experiences allowed our students to better understand the diversity and solidarity that exist in the world.
Our representatives, Iria Ruiz, María Agote, Matxalen Sainz, Sara Fernández, Naroa Álvarez, Iraitz Almena, Unai García and Alejandro Martínez, were accompanied by teachers Jon Lago and Amaia Hernández. During their stay, they not only forged lasting friendships, but also immersed themselves in the culture of the Shetland Islands. The locals welcomed us warmly, opening their homes and treating us as part of their family.
The farewell was full of tears and emotions, but also of gratitude for the experience. Now, a new challenge awaits us: next year, our school Somorrostro will host this conference. We are excited and ready to welcome students from all over the world and continue this valuable cultural exchange.
See you next year!
