Today, more than 60 students from the five Basic Level Vocational Training courses at the Somorrostro Training Centre attended their graduation ceremony, an emotional event at which they were joined by their families, friends and teachers to mark the end of a period filled with learning, personal growth and personal achievement.
Students from the Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Metalwork – Welding, Domestic Maintenance (Plumbing and Heating), Electricity and Electronics, and IT and Communications courses took centre stage on an afternoon filled with emotion, memories and messages for the future.
Throughout the event, there was time to reflect on some of the experiences of the past two years, a period in which the students have not only acquired professional skills, but have also built their confidence, independence and ability to tackle new challenges.
One of the most special moments of the gala came with the speech by Izaro, a Computer Science and Communications student, who gave voice to the feelings of many of her fellow students. In a sincere and moving speech, she recalled that “at times there were people who doubted them, but that at Somorrostro they found a place where they could prove their worth, discover their abilities and see that, with effort and support, they are capable of achieving goals that may previously have seemed unattainable”.
His words perfectly captured the spirit of Basic Level Vocational Training: to provide opportunities, to support each individual in their development, and to help every student find their own path, building their self-confidence and belief in their future prospects.
The ceremony also served to recognise the work of the families and teaching staff, who over the past two academic years have supported the students every step of the way, celebrating their successes and supporting them through their difficulties. Because behind every graduation lie many hours of hard work, dedication, patience and shared trust.
Following the presentation of diplomas and the group photographs, the celebrations continued with a light lunch, during which students, family members and teachers were able to share stories, memories and good wishes for the new chapter that is now beginning.
For many of these young people, the coming academic year will mean continuing their education in intermediate vocational training courses; for others, it will be time to take their first steps into the world of work. Whatever path they choose, they all take with them something that goes far beyond a qualification: the certainty that they are capable, that they have talent, and that the future offers them new opportunities to continue growing.
Because, as was recalled during the ceremony, when someone believes in you and you learn to believe in yourself, any goal is a little closer.
