Somorrostro strengthens collaboration in Artificial Intelligence with IES Fernando Wirtz and AESIA

This week, our colleague Mikel Díez, professor of the Artificial Intelligence and Big Data department, has travelled to Galicia as part of the development of the innovation project of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, in which we participate as a VET Centre of Excellence in AI and Big Data.

During his stay, Mikel visited the IES Fernando Wirtz Suárez in A Coruña, a reference centre for teaching specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, like our centre. The aim of the meeting was to share progress on the project ‘Demostrador de un sistema de integración continua desplegado bajo tecnologías Cloud para proyectos de Inteligencia Artificial’, a cutting-edge proposal that seeks to offer updated and useful tools for classroom work with these emerging technologies.

In addition to presenting the project, experiences were exchanged on innovative methodologies as ETHAZI, a Basque challenge-based teaching model that has aroused great interest among Galician teachers due to its ability to motivate and engage students.

The day was completed with a talk on cybersecurity applied to mobile devices and, as a finale, an institutional visit to the headquarters of the AESIA (Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence), also located in A Coruña. There, Mikel was able to learn about the work that is being developed at national level in ethical, legal and technical supervision of the use of artificial intelligence..

Somorrostro would like to thank the team of IES Fernando Wirtz, and especially Daniel Espiñeira, Rubén Cuellas, and Juan Francisco Puentes (Deputy Director of AESIA), for their welcome and willingness to continue strengthening the collaboration between centres.
