MÁSTER-HIDRÓGENO

Presentation of the new “Master in Hydrogen Technologies”

The new “Master’s Degree in Hydrogen Technologies” was presented today at the AS Fabrik Campus of Mondragon Unibertsitatea in Bilbao, a training programme promoted by the Repsol-Petronor Group, designed and backed by Mondragon Unibertsitatea, the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, and the University of Zaragoza, as well as the Somorrostro in Muskiz, and with the participation of five other training and research centres such as the Hydrogen Foundation of Aragon. The twelve entities have joined forces to launch the Master’s Degree in Hydrogen Technologies, which will start on 15 October 2021. It is a multi-localised master’s degree in four locations: Bilbao, Barcelona, Tarragona and Zaragoza, and which will be taught mainly in synchronous virtual mode.

The ceremony was presided over by Bicente Atxa, Rector of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Emiliano López, President of Petronor and Javier Laiseca, Director of CF Somorrostro. This inter-university master’s degree in Hydrogen Technologies was created to offer innovative and cutting-edge knowledge in the field of the hydrogen economy and its associated technologies. Hydrogen is one of the energy vectors with the greatest potential to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.

In line with European strategies on hydrogen technologies, this unprecedented collaboration has been created between leading industrial, university and vocational training entities, a collaboration that seeks to accelerate the development of hydrogen technologies in the industry, and will require a balance between university-trained engineering profiles and those from vocational training.

The master’s degree is the driving force behind the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C), a major institutional and business project to turn the Basque Country into a major hub of the green productive economy and lead a new energy model in which Somorrostro is actively participating.
