Last Thursday, 29 June, we held the conference “Internet de las cosas (IoT) aplicada a la monitorización de la salud y seguridad de trabajadores del sector industrial a través de comunicaciones 5G” in which we presented the results of the project that we have carried out throughout the course with the Catalan schools Institut FP Sant Cugat and Institut Narcís Xifra i Masmitjà and which has had the collaboration of the companies ENGIDI and the IEEC: Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya. Vicente llarena and Eztizen Fajol were the Somorrostro teachers involved in this project financed by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and the Next Generation European Funds.
5G is a technology that brings improvements in energy efficiency and bandwidth consumption in telemetry and telecontrol, as well as new lines of business such as private networks in 5G that offer greater personalisation for internal communications.
The project has consisted of the creation of several test laboratories for the study and research of this technology. Each centre has developed an internal network with a base station under 5G NBIoT, SA and NSA technology.
Sensors have been connected to this network for the parameterisation of the network itself, as well as data on environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity.
The project has enabled a transfer of knowledge and cross-cutting work among the teaching staff and a large part of the knowledge has been introduced in the classroom with students of the Telecommunications and Computer Systems GS cycle.
All the equipment acquired will be used in this cycle, with the aim of the students acquiring knowledge in this technology, which is one of the areas of action of the Basque and Catalan Governments. Thus, next year, a 5G laboratory will be available so that students can implement a communications network under this technology.
