MÁSTER-HIDRÓGENO

Twelve years participating in the FIRST LEGO League

On Saturday 8th of May, 400 Basque schoolchildren aged between 10 and 16 took part in the 12th edition of FLL Euskadi. Complying with all the social and health measures, they lived an unforgettable experience and helped us to understand how we can transform sport and games in our lives. 45 teams divided across the 3 venues (Deusto-Bilbao, Donostia and Mondragón) presented their innovation, robotics and other types of projects.

Among the teams presented in the University of Deusto was the one formed by our ESO students, our SOMOROBOT 2021. With fewer members due to the confinements of the last few weeks, only four of the team members defended both their innovation project and the different tests with the robot. Led by Naiara Allende and Juan Lorenzo, they left the centre’s flag flying high. On this occasion, the challenge “REPLAY/PLAYMAKERS: reinventing games and sport” consisted of proposing new ways to combat sedentary lifestyles and to keep us more active. Teams had to come up with innovative ideas to respond to the problems arising from the pandemic.

Twelve years have passed since the first edition of the FLL in the Basque Country, an edition in which Somorrostro took part. This competition, organised in the Basque Country by Innobasque, together with the University of Deusto, Fomento San Sebastián and Mondragon Unibertsitatea, seeks to awaken the interest of young people in science and technology. Through fun, group learning experiences with real thematic challenges, skills in the scientific and digital world are developed and values such as discovery, innovation, inclusion and teamwork are promoted.
