From 23 to 27 March, the Somorrostro Training Centre was once again filled with life, energy and new experiences during the latest edition of Kulturaldia 2026, a very special week in which learning moves beyond the classroom to be experienced in a different way.
Over five days, pupils from secondary school, sixth form and vocational training took part in a comprehensive programme of activities combining sport, culture, creativity, awareness-raising and socialising, cementing this week as one of the most eagerly awaited events of the academic year.
🧠🎨 ESO: creativity, community spirit and talent
Secondary school pupils have enjoyed a wide-ranging programme that has included the school’s traditional activities.
These have included initiatives such as ‘Somo Chef’, where the younger pupils demonstrated their culinary creativity, and ‘Somo Talent’, a showcase of the pupils’ artistic talent featuring performances in music, dance and other disciplines.
In addition, they have taken part in various sports competitions, workshops and group activities, awareness-raising initiatives such as talks on cyberbullying, and engaging events such as the cycle ride to La Arena Beach – an experience of socialising that was highly appreciated by the pupils.
The week also featured initiatives linked to Basque culture, such as taking part in the Korrika, reinforcing the school’s commitment to the Basque language and its local community.
💪🎓 Bachillerato: sport, reflection and teamwork
In Bachillerato, the week has combined cultural activities with sporting events and opportunities for reflection.
Students have taken part in talks on topics such as road safety and the 2030 Agenda, as well as activities including films shown in their original language and educational sessions.
In the sporting arena, the herri kirolak events have been a highlight, enabling pupils to engage with Basque traditions from a practical and participatory perspective.
Chess has also played a leading role, with a tournament reaching its finals this week, alongside other activities such as treasure hunts and sports competitions.
⚙️🏀 VET: sport, creativity and participation
Vocational training students have actively taken part in Kulturaldia with a programme focusing particularly on sport and creativity.
Throughout the week, chess, traditional Basque sports and 3×3 basketball tournaments were held, as well as an original TikTok competition, encouraging participation, teamwork and self-expression in various formats.
💙 A week that defines our educational project
Kulturaldia is much more than just a series of activities. It is a clear illustration of the school’s educational model, based on experiential learning, active participation and the holistic development of pupils.
Sport, culture, creativity, values and community spirit come together in a week that leaves a lasting impression and which, year after year, continues to grow thanks to the involvement of the entire school community.
👏 Thank you to all the students, teachers and staff at the school for making this possible once again.
