At the Somorrostro Training Centre, we continue to be committed to solidarity and shared learning. In collaboration with the Muskiz Day Centre, this year we are once again launching the Intergenerational Solidarity Project, an initiative that brings Basic Vocational Training students of Hairdressing and Aesthetics closer to the elderly, generating an enriching exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The value of intergenerational living
Intergenerational relationships bring a wealth of benefits for both young and old. Students have the opportunity to get to know a different reality, while developing values such as empathy, cooperation and solidarity. For their part, older people experience an improvement in their self-esteem and mood as they enjoy broader social relations and feel integrated into society.
What does the project consist of?
Throughout the course, Basic Vocational Training students will visit the Muskiz Day Centre, where they will put into practice the skills they have acquired in their studies. They will carry out haircuts, hair dyeing, hairstyling, manicures, and moustache and eyebrow waxing, providing the elderly with a special moment of personal care and attention. This interaction promotes not only physical well-being, but also the creation of emotional bonds between the two generations.
Exchange and shared learning
The project does not end with a visit to the Day Centre. Afterwards, the seniors will visit the facilities of the Somorrostro Training Centre, where they will get to know first-hand the work that the students carry out on a daily basis. In an atmosphere of mutual learning, the seniors will be able to participate in practical activities, sharing their own experiences and knowledge with the young people.
Benefits for all
This intergenerational exchange promotes a more enriching social coexistence, fostering understanding and reducing negative stereotypes. Both older and younger people come out stronger: students improve their perception of older people and broaden their support networks, while older people enjoy greater vitality and a reduced sense of loneliness.

Connecting generations, strengthening the community
Thanks to the proximity between the Somorrostro Training Centre and the Muskiz Day Centre, we are able to facilitate these meetings on a regular basis, creating a culture of solidarity and social participation. This project not only improves coexistence between generations, but also encourages greater inclusion and participation of all people, regardless of their age.
At Somorrostro Training Centre, we continue to believe that the connection between generations is fundamental to building a more inclusive and caring society. This project is just one of many initiatives that promote our values of empathy, cooperation and personal growth.
