7th Talgo Foundation Welding Championship

Mikel Rivera, a 2nd-year student of Welding and Boilermaking, took part in the finals of the 7th edition of the Welding Championship organised by the Talgo Foundation, which was held on 1st and 2nd March at the Talgo factory in Rivabellosa (Álava).

Mikel has been selected as one of the 20 finalists in a competition in which 20 welding and boilermaking training centres from three autonomous regions took part; four schools from the Madrid region; five of the six centres from Castilla y León and, lastly, 11 from centres in the Basque Country. In total, there are more than 1,500 students enrolled in welding and boilermaking in the three autonomous communities.

The aim of this competition is to look for professional profiles that fit in with the demand for qualified operators for the construction of high-speed trains. The tests that the students have faced have been designed in the laboratories of the National Centre for Metallurgical Research (CENIM) and previously carried out by approved welders. The National Metallurgical Research Centre of the CSIC is in charge of the technical management of the competition. The results and prizes will be announced in June in Madrid (at the company’s headquarters)
