Basque prize for innovation in the education sector

At a ceremony held in Donostia, the Basque Awards for Advanced Management were presented yesterday, 14th December, with the aim of recognising the most advanced organisations with the best management practices in the Basque Country. At this gala Somorrostro received the highest award for Advanced Management in the Strategy element (it had already received the Gold A in 2020).

In addition, our colleague Jon Barrueco received the Basque award for innovation in the education sector QIA (Quality Innovation Award) for the BucovIA Artificial Intelligence project that is being developed in collaboration with the Nazareth centre in Donostia and the Zabalburu school in Bilbao. BucovIA is an artificial intelligence tool for detecting signs of bullying in the classroom. It has created an algorithm for the identification of the roles of Bully, Victim and Observer and for the selection and analysis of questions of scientific tests for the detection of bullying.

This project will represent the Basque Country competing in its international phase alongside 500 other organisations from all over the world in Kazakhstan in February 2023.

The ceremony was attended by a large representation from the Basque Government, as the awards were presented by Arantxa Tapia (Regional Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment), Beatriz Artolazabal (Regional Minister for Equality, Justice and Social Policies), Gotzone Sagardui (Regional Minister for Health), Jorge Arevalo (Deputy Regional Minister for Vocational Training) and Gorka Iturriaga (Director of Physical Activity and Sport).
