Peace is also built in classrooms

Somorrostro mobilizes for PEACE in Palestine

On Thursday, October 16, secondary school, high school, and vocational training students at the Somorrostro Training Center came together for a symbolic day to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity.

During recess, gatherings were held at all educational levels, in which students and teachers observed a few minutes of silence as a gesture of support for the victims of the conflict. In the case of ESO, the activity took on a particularly visual character: the students formed a large mosaic with the colors of the Palestinian flag, filling the courtyard with green, white, black, and red cardboard that, when viewed from above, formed a giant flag.

The atmosphere was one of reflection, respect, and commitment. This event, promoted as part of the Diocese of Bilbao’s invitation to join various peace rallies, sought to remind us that we cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of others.

At Somorrostro, this initiative has been seen as an educational opportunity to work on fundamental values: empathy, solidarity, and the defense of human rights. As was recalled during the event, “peace is also built in the classroom, with simple but meaningful gestures.”

With this human mosaic, the students of Somorrostro wanted to convey, with strength and hope, that the future can only be built on peace. 🕊️
