Last Saturday, 28 September, the inaugural ‘GOAZEN’ day of the new pastoral course of the Diocese of Bilbao took place. With the motto ‘Etorkizunari begira’ (Looking to the future), a series of events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of our diocese began.
Almost a thousand people gathered in Derio in a festive atmosphere to participate in this first celebration. After a prayer shared by all the vicariates, a video was shown that reviewed the most significant moments in the diocese’s history. One of the most moving moments was the presentation of the song ‘Geroa marraztu’, composed by the renowned trikitilari and former student of the Somorrostro Training Centre, Xabi Aburruzaga. This piece of music will serve as the main theme of the anniversary celebrations.
Bishop Joseba Segura also had a prominent place, sharing an inspiring message about the future of the diocese. Afterwards, the children performed a choreography to the rhythm of the song, inviting all present to join in the singing.
The day’s activities concluded with different group dynamics and a community lunch that left the participants with a great desire to continue celebrating this important anniversary.
The ‘GOAZEN’ day was just the beginning. Throughout the course, more activities will be carried out for the whole Church of Bizkaia, with the aim of celebrating our history and building together a future based on fraternity.
