Presentation of the Welding School – Soldarte

The agreement between the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Somorrostro Training Centre, Haizea Wind and the Bizkaia Federation of Metal Companies has been signed today in Bilbao to set up the advanced welding technology centre – Soldarte.

Teresa Laespada, Provincial Councillor for Employment, Social Inclusion and Equality, Javier Laiseca, Director of the Somorrostro Training Centre, Borja Zárraga, CEO of Haizea Wind and Tamara Yagüe, President of the Biscayan Federation of Metal Companies were present at the presentation of the project.

This centre will train both unemployed people and people who want to improve their employment situation and guarantees at least 145 new jobs in the industrial sector, in companies in environmentally sustainable sectors with good working conditions and decent wages. The advanced welding technology centre will focus on three specialisations, submerged arc, semi-automatic and deburring, and will provide 150, 45 and 30 training courses in each of these specialisations, guaranteeing at least 93, 27 and 21 jobs, i.e. 225 training courses with at least 145 jobs. The Provincial Council will invest 585,000 euros in this project.

As Teresa Laespada pointed out, “Soldarte is a dual response, on the one hand, obviously to all those people who are unemployed and are looking to improve their working conditions, and on the other hand, it aims to respond to the needs of companies when it comes to covering staff in areas in which they need very specific training to join the labour market”.

Javier Laiseca stated that “Soldarte combines three issues that are important for the personal and professional development of people from Bizkaia, the first of which is the generation of opportunities for access to employment by seeking quality and stable employment, the second is being open to people with low levels of qualifications who want to improve their employment situation and the third, but no less important, is that of integrating training within the company itself”.

Borja Zárraga stressed that “Haizea Wind is a benchmark in the wind power industry, an industry that will in turn be a spearhead within the future energy hub that is being created in the Basque Country, and in this context of expansion of activity Haizea Wind has a very relevant future in which it will have to draw on specialists with qualifications that unfortunately today we are struggling to find”.

For her part, Tamara Yagüe wanted to “highlight the fact that the metal sector is a sector with a high demand for welders, and that it is a reality that there is a clear lack of this professional profile on the market”; she also wanted to emphasise that “thanks to the public-private collaboration that I believe this project, which is so important for Bizkaia, is going to become a reality”.

Pre-registration is already open and can be done through the Bizkaia Employment Portal (final registration and the entire training and recruitment process will take place from next January).
