Our center is participating once again in Gazte On, the program run by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia that seeks to integrate young people at risk of social exclusion into the labor market through personalized employment-training pathways.
In September, key steps were taken in the development of the project:
- The 4th edition (Gazte On 2023) was completed, in which 14 young migrants were supported, with 12 of them finding employment.
- The 5th edition is continuing, with 29 young people participating: 10 are already doing internships at the company Haizea Bilbao, 8 who are currently continuing their training at the center will begin this process in October, and the remaining 11 are receiving support in their social and labor integration pathways.
- Preparations are also underway for the 6th edition (Gazte On 2025), which will serve 47 young people with 4 employment-training pathways, almost 1,900 hours of training, and 5,500 hours of support and guidance.
By September 2025, Gazte On had trained and supported 136 young people, 70 of whom had successfully entered the labor market.
This project, promoted by the Provincial Council and developed in collaboration with social entities and training centers such as Somorrostro, goes beyond technical training: it offers comprehensive support (emotional, social, and employment) and is committed to collaborating with companies to guarantee real internships and increase the chances of hiring.
What is the GAZTE ON program?
The “Gazte On” program run by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia is an initiative aimed at promoting the integration into the labor market of young people at risk of social exclusion. Below is a summary of its main features:
Main Objective:
Facilitating entry into the labor market for young people between the ages of 18 and 23 who are part of the Bizkaia Provincial Council’s Youth Strategy.
It focuses on job placement through comprehensive, personalized pathways that combine training and employment.
Approach and methodology:
Mixed employment-training programs: Participants receive specific training tailored to the needs of today’s job market.
Comprehensive and social support: The program goes beyond technical training. Support is offered in various areas of young people’s lives (emotional, health, housing, finances, etc.) to improve their daily lives and help them acquire life skills and competencies.
Public-private partnership: The Provincial Council of Bizkaia promotes and finances the program, but it is managed in collaboration with various social and educational entities, such as Cáritas Bizkaia, Fundación Peñascal, Adsis, and centers such as Somorrostro and Otxarkoaga. Partnerships are also established with companies to guarantee internships and subsequent job placement.
Internships in companies and subsequent hiring: A fundamental aspect is the completion of internships in companies in the sector for which they have been trained. The aim is that, after the internship period, young people can join the same company with an employment contract.
Impact and results:
The program has proven to be successful, helping a significant percentage of participants find employment. It is worth noting that more than 70% of young people who have completed the program have secured a job contract.
The training programs are tailored to the demands of the Bizkaia labor market, covering sectors such as welding, surface treatment, the food industry, hospitality, carpentry, and, more recently, the fishing industry and sustainable building renovation.
Young people are equipped with technical and employability skills, as well as values such as punctuality and responsibility, which are essential for success in the workplace.
