The students of 4A of ESO participated in an enriching activity organized by the BBK Foundation and the Muskiz Day Center around the project “Invisible Soledad” (Invisible Loneliness), an initiative that seeks to raise awareness and reflect on unwanted loneliness in our society.
The meeting, held at the Meatzari Aretoa in Muskiz, was based on the sculpture “Invisible Soledad” by artist Rubén Orozco Loza, which depicts Mercedes, an elderly woman who symbolizes so many people living in isolation. Based on her story, the students shared their own perceptions of what it means to feel lonely and discussed the causes of loneliness at different stages of life.
During the activity, profound reflections arose about how technology, despite bringing us closer digitally, can distance us emotionally. More and more young people between the ages of 17 and 29 admit to feeling lonely, making this phenomenon one of the great social challenges of the 21st century.
The “Invisible Soledad” project seeks to do just that: make the invisible visible, generate empathy, and promote real support networks that help combat loneliness through education and coexistence.
An experience that has encouraged our students to look at the reality around them with new eyes, reminding them that, beyond screens, true connection lies in people.
