To talk about Iker Marrón is to talk about self-improvement, talent, effort and, above all, inspiration. Those who know him closely cannot help but be moved when recalling his time at the center and the mark he continues to leave every day.
Since he was a child, Iker has been living with a rare disease: muscular atrophy, a neuromuscular disorder that affects the limbs and limits mobility. However, this has not prevented him from advancing, growing, studying and becoming a reference in and out of the classroom. His determination has broken physical and mental barriers, and today, as a collaborator of the center, he continues to demonstrate that there are no limits for those who have passion and tenacity.
Iker has made his entire academic journey in Somorrostro: from San Juan Ikastetxea, through ESO, Bachillerato and two higher cycles, Renewable Energy and Mechanical Manufacturing Design. In this last stage, his talent with 3D design led him to participate in several projects in the Fab Lab, becoming a true expert in tools such as AutoCAD and 3D modeling programs.
Today he works in the school’s Virtual Reality Classroom, collaborating closely with teachers and students. His role is key: he advises teachers, designs content and virtual learning scenarios and also provides training in programs such as SIMLAB-VR or Unity, platforms used in the creation of immersive learning environments.
Jorge Monja, one of his former professors and a great promoter of his current work, emphasizes how Iker has become an essential pillar:
🗨 “He does things that I, for time or knowledge, could not do. His work allows us to move forward in innovation projects with an agility that we didn’t have before. And besides, it’s a pleasure to share laughter and coffee with him every day.”
From his place in the classroom, Iker generates teaching materials for courses such as Digitalization of Industrial Maintenance, also collaborating in the internal training of teachers. But his contribution goes beyond the technical. Ana Orallo, head of the immersive classroom, is clear about this:
🗨 “Thanks to Iker, the classroom has come to life. He has initiative, proposes ideas and carries out tasks that without him would still be pending. It is a luxury to have him on the team.”
Iker also participates in training workshops with students of cycles such as Renewable Energy or Electricity, teaching basic notions of AutoCAD design, so demanded in many companies.
But if there is someone who has lived her evolution very closely, it is Inma Martínez, her Educational Support Specialist for many years:
🗨 “Accompanying Iker has been a privilege. His humor, his way of looking at life, his ability to surprise us every day… Iker leaves his mark. His motto is clear: before saying that you can’t do something, try it..”
Alberto Yáñez, also a teacher and friend, sums up his essence in a few words that define him perfectly:
🗨 “From committed student to exemplary colleague. Your passion, your stubbornness, your way of facing life… are an example for everyone. I hope to continue learning from you for a long time to come.”
Iker, with his daily effort, his desire to learn and his generosity to share, is much more than a collaborator. He is a living inspiration for those around him. As he proudly states:
🗨 “I’m very happy to be at the center, it’s my second home. I love being able to teach… although I prefer to do it with the students more than with the teachers,” he jokes.
Of course, in Somorrostro we are privileged to have him. And with people like Iker, the future will always have an engine full of illusion, creativity and humanity.
