Somorrostro completes deployment of its private 5G network

Somorrostro completes the deployment of its private 5G network within the framework of the project IMPLEMENTATION OF HIGH CAPACITY NETWORKS FOR REAL-TIME CONTROL OF AUTOMATED SYSTEMS THROUGH IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGIES

The project, in which our colleagues Vicente Llarena and María Santisteban are working and which is jointly developed by CIFP Tartanga LHII and Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa, has as its main objective to explore how high capacity networks, both wireless (5G) and wired (fibre optics), can be applied to the real-time control and visualisation of automated systems using digital twins and immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality. Each centre brings expertise in key areas such as industrial automation, virtual simulation and the configuration of critical networks in industrial IoT (IIoT) environments.

Throughout the previous phases of the project, a detailed analysis of Virtual Reality devices compatible with Simumatik simulation software has been carried out, and technical solutions for the deployment of sensors and industrial routers compatible with 5G have been studied. In parallel, the digital twin of an automated cell has been developed at CIFP Tartanga and its visualisation in Virtual Reality at Mondragon. For its part, the CIPFP Somorrostro has taken responsibility for defining the key parameters for the configuration of private 5G networks in each centre (PLMN, ARFCN, TAC, PCI, network segmentation, type of VPN, among others).

The project is currently in Phase 3, focused on the implementation of the private 5G networks in each of the centres and the analysis of their behaviour. To this end, it is carrying out operational tests with the aim of measuring response times, jitter and stability, fundamental elements for guaranteeing critical communications in real industrial environments.
