The students of Somorrostro are taking part in the 8 March march organised by Muskiz Town Council

To mark 8 March, International Women’s Day, pupils from our school took part this Friday in the march organised by the Equality Department of Muskiz Town Council, in which various schools from across the municipality participated.

Although 8 March falls on a Sunday this year, the municipality brought the events forward to Friday 6 March, bringing together pupils and teachers for a day of reflection and advocacy in support of equality.

The march ended in Meatzari Square, where a joint rally was held and a manifesto was read out to bring the event to a close. The manifesto highlighted that equality between women and men is a right won through the struggle of many women throughout history, but also a goal that continues to require commitment and collective effort.

The manifesto also highlighted that, despite the progress made in recent decades, gender stereotypes and roles continue to limit the opportunities and development of many women, and that education in equality, critical thinking and respect are key to building a fairer society.

The event is also part of the institutional campaign launched by Emakunde, the provincial councils and EUDEL, which this year runs under the slogan “Make room for equality” – an invitation to continue expanding opportunities for equality in all areas of life: in education, at work, in shared responsibility for care, and in the fight against gender-based violence.

At our centre, we remain committed to education in equality as a fundamental part of our students’ education, convinced that building a fairer and more equal society is a shared responsibility.
