A new edition of the ‘Inspira STEAM’ project kicks off

Today, the Somorrostro Training Centre kicked off a new edition of the Inspira STEAM project, an initiative promoted by the University of Deusto that the centre has been running for several years with 1st year secondary school students.

The project began with the first working session between the Year 7 groups and the team of mentors who will accompany the students throughout this academic year. In total, six awareness-raising and guidance sessions will be held, focusing on awakening scientific and technological vocations from a perspective of equality, diversity and educational equity.

Close references for making decisions without stereotypes

Inspira STEAM is based on direct contact between students and professionals in the scientific and technological fields, who act as accessible and realistic role models. Through participatory activities, the project seeks to:

  • Bring female role models in science and technology closer to students.
  • Explore the wide range of STEAM professions (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics).
  • Reflect on diversity and the importance of women and men participating together in scientific and technological development.
  • Highlight the role of women in these areas, both historically and today.
  • Identify and break down stereotypes that often unconsciously influence academic and professional decisions.

All this with a clear objective: to enable students to choose their future freely, without labels or gender constraints.

A committed team of mentors

In this edition, the project has a team of mentors from different companies in the industrial and technological fields. Professionals such as Verónica Pérez from Sidenor, Daniel Mikolta from Ingeteam, and Eduardo Díez from Lantik are participating. In addition, Leticia García from Bilbomatica, who has already collaborated in previous editions, is joining again.

Their involvement and approachability are key to conveying to students that STEAM professions are within everyone’s reach.

Commitment to equality and educational innovation

With the launch of this project, Somorrostro reaffirms its commitment to equal opportunities, educational innovation and comprehensive student training. Inspira STEAM is much more than a guidance programme: it is an invitation to imagine possible, diverse and limitless futures.
