Last Tuesday, June 11, a group of teachers from the Somorrostro Training Center visited Bilbao to get to know in depth some of the projects that Cáritas Bizkaia promotes in the city. The main objectives of the activity were to learn about the social reality served by this organization, reflect on possible ways of collaboration and explore opportunities in the field of Learning and Service.
During the day, the teachers visited various spaces managed by Caritas, such as:
-
-
- Koopera (c/ Víctor): second-hand clothing store and circular economy.
- Kidenda: fair trade and responsible consumption.
- Egunon Etxea: day center for the elderly
- Hontza & Haran Zentroa: care for homeless people.
- Hargindegi: care for families and social promotion programs.
- Gandarias: socio-educational intervention with young people.
- Centro Indautxu: employment and territorialized attention.
-
The experience allowed the teaching team not only to learn about the dimension and impact of Caritas’ work, but also to visualize synergies between the two institutions, both belonging to the Diocese of Bilbao. In the words of some participants, it was “a day of learning, awareness and commitment to social transformation through education”.
From Somorrostro we are grateful for the welcome received from Caritas and we reaffirm our commitment to a solidary, transforming and networked education.
